Categories: main-event

At Sungir near Vladimir, Upper Palaeolithic hunters buried an adult man and two children with thousands of mammoth-ivory beads, spears and ornaments about 34,000 years ago. Producing the beads alone would have required thousands of hours of work. The graves are among the richest burials of the Ice Age anywhere in the world. Sungir provides rare evidence of social complexity, ritual and belief among Europe's earliest modern humans.
