Categories: main-event

The Yamnaya culture of the Pontic-Caspian steppe, between the Dnieper and the Urals, was made up of mobile herders who used wagons and buried their elite in kurgans. Genetic studies show a large migration of steppe ancestry into Europe from around 3000 BCE. Many scholars link the Yamnaya with the spread of early Indo-European languages. The steppe of southern Russia was a crucible for peoples and languages that shaped much of Eurasia.
