Categories: main-event

In 1485 Ivan III annexed Tver, Moscow's old rival. Italian architects such as Aristotele Fioravanti, Pietro Antonio Solari and Marco Ruffo were rebuilding the Kremlin: the Dormition Cathedral (1479), the brick walls and towers (1485-1495) and the Palace of Facets. The Kremlin took on the appearance it largely keeps today. The new Kremlin expressed Moscow's status as the capital of a sovereign state.
