After Stephen Báthory's campaigns and the siege of Pskov, Ivan IV concluded the Truce of Yam-Zapolsky with Poland-Lithuania in 1582, giving up Livonia and Polotsk. A truce with Sweden followed in 1583. Russia lost almost all its Baltic gains. The failure postponed Russia's Baltic ambitions until Peter the Great.
