# Academy of Sciences founded (1724)

By decree in early 1724 Peter founded the Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg. It opened in 1725 and attracted scholars such as Leonhard Euler and Daniel Bernoulli. It included a gymnasium and university. The Academy became the centre of Russian science, today the Russian Academy of Sciences.
