# Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca (1774)

The Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca ended the war with the Ottomans. Russia gained ports on the Black Sea, the right of navigation and a protective role for Orthodox Christians; the Crimean Khanate became independent of the Ottomans. The treaty's clauses on Orthodox Christians were later used to justify intervention. It made Russia a Black Sea power.
