# Provincial reform (1775)

After Pugachev, Catherine issued the Statute of the Provinces in 1775, dividing Russia into about 50 guberniyas and creating local courts and noble assemblies. The Zaporozhian Sich was also dissolved in 1775. The reform shaped Russian local government for almost a century.
