# Death of Brezhnev (1982)

Leonid Brezhnev died on 10 November 1982. Former KGB chief Yuri Andropov succeeded him and began a campaign against corruption and absenteeism. Andropov himself was soon seriously ill. Brezhnev's death began a rapid succession of ageing leaders.
