Russia hosted the Winter Olympics in Sochi from 7 to 23 February 2014, the most expensive Games to that date. Later investigations revealed a state-backed doping scheme, and many results were annulled. Ukraine's Euromaidan revolution culminated during the Games. The Games were followed by one of Russia's biggest sports scandals.
