# Oleg's campaign against Constantinople (907)

The Primary Chronicle says Oleg led a great fleet against Constantinople in 907 and nailed his shield to its gates. A treaty followed, and in 911 a detailed agreement regulated trade and the status of Rus' merchants in the city. The 911 treaty text, preserved in the chronicle, is one of the oldest documents of Rus' history. The treaties show Kievan Rus' as a trading partner of the Byzantine Empire.
