Categories: battle

Prince Igor of Kiev attacked the Byzantine coast of Asia Minor and Constantinople in 941. The Byzantine navy destroyed much of his fleet with Greek fire, the empire's secret incendiary weapon. A new expedition in 944 ended with a treaty less favourable to the Rus' than Oleg's. The defeat showed the limits of Rus' military power against Byzantium.
